Ain’t That a Kick In the Head (or gut, leg, etc..)?

One of the “things” we’ve worked on with Stella is not to kick.  I guess when you’re all piled on the couch and the bed, it’s normal for those little legs to just get busy and flail.  As she’s gotten bigger and stronger, it’s gone from being something one can ignore to irritating to downright painful and dangerous (for Felix, especially).  We’re making good progress on it.  Now all that’s required to still her gams is the threat of a timeout.

Here’s where it gets a bit convoluted.  Obviously infants have zero bodily control.  Felix is quite often kicking around.  When we’re all piled in bed together before a nap or night-night time, Stella gets kicked by Felix.  Of course it doesn’t hurt.  But she does recognize that she gets fussed at for kicking – particularly if contact is made – and Felix does not.  She can’t kick but Felix is allowed to.

No kicking, Felix.

No kicking, Felix.

Enter her first ever double standard.  It won’t be the last.  Sorry, Stella.  Life isn’t fair a whole lotta the time!

Growing up, my mom used to say (every. single. time) I said, “That’s not faaaaaaair”….

“Well Amber, life isn’t fair and the sooner you figure that out the happier you will be”

Thought she was crazy but she was totally right! 😉
